About Our Class
Our class theme is: We Are His Hands. We want to be the hands of Jesus, and we look for ways we can learn more about Him and be like Him. We want to share His love with others, so we put on programs at the College Place Brookdale Assisted Living Center, do Bible plays for churches, take paper products to the Christian Aid Center, and anything else we can think of to be His hands.
In our class, we practice life skills that help us become caring, responsible citizens. We have fun mastering the basics of math, language arts, science, and social studies through the use of multiple intelligences. Individualized learning plans and challenges are offered to meet the needs of each child. We do projects, experiments, and invite guest speakers to our classroom to enrich our academic experiences. We enjoy reading our Bibles, memorizing scripture, and making music. We care about each other as a class family and try to make each member feel valued and special. When we have problems, we talk them over, share ideas and solutions, and work together for a positive outcome. We show respect to each other and encourage one another. We want our classroom to be a welcoming place for everyone.
Words from Mrs. Wessman
This is my 18th year teaching 1st/2nd grade at Rogers. I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance with a 5th year professional certification in elementary education. In addition, I've done extra training in Suzuki pedagogy for young children and Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory education. My husband and I have two grown children and 4 adorable grandchildren. My husband is a medical technologist at St. Mary's Medical Center in Walla Walla. I am a teacher because I find it fascinating to watch kids learn, and enjoy finding ways to help each child reach their own unique potential. My hobbies include reading, music, travel, gardening, outreach activities, and baking bread. I love teaching children, and am honored that parents choose to entrust them to me. My primary goal as a teacher is to demonstrate Jesus' love and friendship to my students. I strive daily to make our classroom a happy, safe, and fun place to learn.
Our first grade reading group performing The Three Billy Goats Gruff as a Readers' Theater Presentation. Be sure to watch to the very, very end. This is great fun! Thanks to a classroom dad for the video.
